Wood flooring related to Materials and Resources Leed Credits…

MR Credit 3 - Resource Reuse – Using salvage, refurbished or reused materials for a % of the building materials.
  • Salvage materials such as beams and posts, flooring, doors etc. --
    • Example: Remove old wood flooring, de-nail it and re-install the same
  • Antique Reclaimed woods (FSC also) --
    • Various grades of species such as Heart Pine, Oak, Ash, Chestnut, Elm, Hickory and milled Barn wood, just to name a few.
MR Credits 4 - Recycled content – Using wood that is a pre-consumer recycled product.
  • Examples are ply laminated flooring and some end grain floors.
    • MR Credit 5- Regional Materials - “Regionally” means within 500 miles of the jobsite.
    “Manufactured” refers to the final assembly of components into the building product that is furnished and installed by others.
    • Anything manufactured in Woodwright’s Dallas facility and installed within 500 miles.
      “Extracted” refers to the location of harvesting, extracting or recovering the materials being installed.
    • Examples are  Pecan/ Walnut/ Oak / Texas Mesquite etc.
    MR Credit 6 – Rapidly Renewable Materials
    Use materials or products made from Plants that are typically harvested within a 10 year cycle or shorter
    • Examples are Bamboo products & Cork
    • Woodwright’s specialty is custom End Grain Strand Bamboo flooring and site finished Bamboo floors.
    MR Credit 7 – Certified Wood  (Woodwright is FSC Certified, SW-COC#003838)
    Use a minimum of 50% of wood based materials certified by FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) for wood building components including, but not limited to, structural and general dimension framing, flooring, finished, furnishings and non-rented temporary const. applications such as bracing, concrete form work and pedestrian barriers.
    (Many times this Credit is satisfied long before the wood flooring comes along)

    • FSC Sheetgoods for Subflooring
    • FSC Framing material used for screeds
    • FSC Wood Flooring – Solid
      1. Milled from an FSC certified company, preferably regional
      2. Milled from lumber by Woodwright
      3. Large selection of species in both unfinished and prefinished options are avail FSC.

    Indoor Environmental Quality Leed Credits…

    • EQ Credit 4.1 – Low Emitting Materials (Adhesives and Sealants)
      • Low VOC adhesives - Bostik adhesive and MVP moisture barrier for example.
    • EQ Credit 4.2 – Low Emitting Materials (Paints and Coatings)
      • Low VOC stains and water based urethanes /oils etc..
    • EQ Credit 4.4 – No added urea formaldehyde
      • Many engineered floors and all solid wood floors.
